How Can I Treat My Back Pain?

Back pain is a common problem that can interfere with a person’s everyday work and personal life.  Fortunately for us there are many “at home” remedies that are there to help relieve us from the pain.

80% of adults will experience lower back pain at least once in their lives, it’s a widespread problem causing more global disability than any other condition.   People can also experience back pain in other areas of the back including the middle and upper back.

The back muscles and spine support much of our body weight.  A person uses the muscles for everyday movements, including sitting, standing and walking.

It can be difficult to get up and move when you are suffering from back pain. A short walk, swimming or another low-impact activity can often alleviate the pain. Exercise may loosen tense muscles and release endorphins which are the brain’s natural painkillers.

Stretches can also help relieve some pain.  Below are some examples of a few you can try at home.

1.Touching the toes

Bending forward to reach your toes will help loosen the muscles in the lower back.

2. Cobra Pose

Lying on your stomach, with your hands face down beside the shoulders, gently lift your chest up so that the top of your head points towards the ceiling

3. Cat-Cow Pose

Beginning on your hands and knees, slowly alternate between arching your back towards the ceiling and dipping it towards the floor
